Thank you Spot Trading and DeBorah Lenchard for hosting our first Downtown Community meeting. Thank you to Dan Johnson for facilitating. And, thank you to those who attended.

Dan led us through several activities as we discussed performance reviews and how companies implement them. We talked about a movement among some companies to "blow up" the current annual review system with a less formal check-in process.  Some companies have moved so far in the opposite direction of giving reviews that the managers are struggling with it. We identified ways companies could improve the process of changing from the annual review system to this new check-in process.

We also talked about Level 1 evaluations - or what is commonly referred to as smile sheets. We watched a short video of Will Thalheimer sharing why he believes we need to change what we ask (and when we ask it) on these and reviewed one of his examples. He calls them "Performance-focused Smile Sheets" and has written about it extensively - including writing a book that I've heard nothing but praise about. See the links below for more info.

In terms of meeting, we decided to use reach out to more of our Downtown members before determining the next meeting date, time, and topic.  More on that in another post.
